Yes, we know it's the Valley of the Sun and temperatures hardly warrant measures taken in the higher altitudes; but here are just a couple of tips to ensure winter months fly by smoothly:

• Clean your chimney. Chimney sweeps are a great way to ensure you avoid a flu/chimney fire.
• Reset pool timer. There is no need to run your pool filter the long hours required during the hot summer months. Scale the time back a couple hours and enjoy those cost savings!
• Cover your evaporative cooler. Why allow heat to escape out the evap duct work. Box stores sell cooler covers and they are simple and easy to install.
• Pre-purchase plant covers. Why wait for the first hard freeze to kill off sensitive plants. Pre-purchase burlap or plant covers designed for cold weather. Now you can be instantly prepared for the first hard freeze that sneaks up on us.
