By now, those wanting to plant winter lawns should have cut water to their Bermuda grass. In preparation for planting winter Rye, follow these simple steps:

  • In the last week of September, cut your water back on the Bermuda grass, allowing it to die out.
  • Once October rolls around, you should begin to see night time temperatures in the 60's, that is your sign to get ready.
  • Thatch your lawn to clean old Bermuda and dead grass.
  • When night time temperatures are consistently in the 60's, plant your Rye.
  • Do not forget to turn on the water and keep the seed (Rye) moist. A dry seed is a dead seed.

Tip of the Month : Caulk

So many homes have damage from leaks that could have been avoided. A quick trip around your home will show just about every home has exterior cracks. Five minutes each week with a 2 dollar tube of caulk can save you thousands of dollars in damage from water leakage or even pest infestation.
